Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a much milder form of Crohn’s disease. Crohn’s disease is a chronic (lifelong) inflammatory disease (IBD) of the digestive tract. Symptoms include ulcers, abdominal pain and diarrhea (10-20 times a day, sometimes bloody) and weight loss (without trying). Less common symptoms include mouth sores, bowel blockages, anal tears (fissures) and openings (fistulas) between organs. Infections, hormonal changes and smoking can cause symptoms to flare up.
Crohn’s is diagnosed using physical exams, barium x-ray of small intestine or colon, colonoscopy, biopsy, stool analysis, or CT/MRI.
Common treatments consist of lifestyle changes as exercise, healthy diet, medications to treat diarrhea and inflammation.
How we treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) naturally:
Once labs and additional imaging/scopes are assessed, we will take a holistic approach in helping restore optimal function, since all systems in the body depend on the digestive system for nourishment.
Inflammation tends to be of main concern, considering that if the inflammation continues, the condition/disease will worsen. Therefore, we will focus on identifying what else may be causing or furthering the inflammatory process.
We will identify triggers be it environmental (toxins, chemicals, others), food (chemicals as artificial colors/flavors, other food additives or allergies/sensitivities), substances (alcohol, drugs, caffeine, or others), sleep habits, stress, proper detoxification, and others.
The holistic approach we use when treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) includes dietary modifications, Emotion Code therapy, electrical stimulation, acupuncture, decreasing stress, supplementation and others. Family support is also key in helping the individual work through the current symptoms. The main goal is to restore proper function while decreasing the use of medications and prevent surgery.
