A mild to moderate pain felt around the head. Most headaches are not the result of a serious illness, but some may result from a life-threatening condition requiring emergency care.
Headaches are classified into two groups, primary and secondary.
Primary headaches include tension headaches, cluster headaches, migraine (with or without aura) or trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia (TAC).
Headaches can also be influenced by colds/flu, exercise or sex, which can further be triggered by lifestyle factors as alcohol, foods (i.e. nitrates), changes in sleep, poor posture, skipped meals, stress, increased toxin load and environmental factors (smells as perfumes, chemicals, gasoline, etc.).
A secondary headache is a symptom of a disease that activates the pain-sensitive nerves of the head. Any number of conditions may cause a secondary headache from acute sinusitis, blood clot, dehydration, dental problems, hangovers, panic attack, emotional stress, food, etc.
Go to the hospital or call 911 if you experience the worst headache of your life, a sudden, severe headache that is also accompanied by confusion or understanding speech, fainting, high fever (>102-104 degrees F, 30-40 degrees C), numbness, weakness or paralysis, stiff neck, trouble seeing, trouble walking, nausea or vomiting.
How we treat headaches naturally:
We will take a thorough history, assess lifestyle habits that includes diet, exercise, sleep, detoxification of the body, medications/supplements, mental/emotional state and lab work to determine contributors.
Often we will incorporate a detox program that will enhance detoxification, improving organ function as kidney filtration while at the same time decreasing inflammation and pain.
Together with dietary changes, we may also add herbs, homeopathy, acupuncture, and/or the Emotion Code to further restore and maintain proper function.
The treatment plan will be tailored to the individual, with alterations based on how the body responds.
